Volunteer Family Hub Team Leader

Role Purpose

Enable volunteers to undertake their event roles by providing high-quality childcare, family support and age-appropriate activities in a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment, operating in line with safeguarding requirements and recognised good practice.

About The Team

The Volunteer Family Hub Team provides childcare and family support for volunteers attending HIJ. It works closely with Welfare, Inclusion Support, Safeguarding, First Aid, Site, Volunteer Services and Programme, and liaises directly with volunteer parents and carers.

What You'll Be Doing

• Develop the Volunteer Family Hub operational plan, procedures, staffing requirements, rotas, risk assessments and activity programme.
• Recruit, induct, brief and support Family Hub volunteers.
• Establish robust registration, collection and sign-in/sign-out procedures.
• Liaise with parents and carers regarding children’s individual needs and work with Inclusion Support to enable full participation.
• Ensure appropriate staffing levels, supervision ratios, equipment, toys and facilities are safe and suitable.
• Lead daily Hub operations throughout the jamboree and maintain accurate attendance and collection records.
• Work collaboratively with Welfare, Inclusion Support, Safeguarding and First Aid and respond appropriately to incidents or concerns.
• Coordinate safe closure and pack-down, complete inventories and contribute to the event debrief and recommendations.

Skills & Qualities Required

• Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.
• Experience working with children and families.
• Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills.
• Calm, approachable and able to support volunteer teams under pressure.
• Good understanding of health and safety, inclusion, equality and diversity.
• Childcare, Early Years, education, youth work or paediatric first aid experience is desirable.

Time Commitment

• Attend planning meetings and support recruitment, training and operational preparation before HIJ.
• Attend for the full duration of the jamboree and be available throughout Family Hub operational hours.
• Attend evaluation/debrief meetings and contribute to post-event reporting.
