Scouts and Girlguides from acrosss the UK and their international counterparts, aged 10–17.

(Birthdays between 30th July 2010 - 22nd July 2018)

You must belong to an Explorer or Ranger Group as part of your weekly Scouting or Girlguiding but if your group isn't attending, don't worry you are still welcome to come along.

There is a limited number of spaces available where you will join with other Explorer or Rangers for the week. You can find out mere here

Booking is now open! There are a range of early bird discounts available so it's worth booking your place now.

Participant registration fee includes entry to the event and all participant programme activities and participant evening entertainment. Camping is included for the duration.

Details of catering, merchandise and optional extras will be confirmed closer to the event.

A deposit will be required when booking to secure your place. Once you submit your booking, our team will be in touch to discuss the next steps and take your deposit payment.

At HIJ we understand that things change. That's why we're proud to offer the HIJ Flex guarantee. If you're booking for a group, you can adjust your numbers up until 1st September 2027 and still take advantage of any early bird pricing and not lose any money already paid.

This means that you can increase your numbers by 20% and still enjoy the price that you paid at registration. You can also reduce your numbers by up to 20% and you won't lost any payments already made.

The HIJ pricing available to individuals and groups includes camping and the full activity programme. Your Group may be providing additional benefits including catering, transport, equipment hire and more. We recognise that Groups will have additional costs to attend above the HIJ fees and this may be different between Groups.

Yes. Every evening will feature entertainment including live performances, themed events and opportunities to meet participants from around the world.

Yes. Alongside the activity programme there will be opportunities to explore the site, meet other groups and enjoy the international atmosphere.

As well as our Experience Zones providing activities throughout the day, and our evening entertainment programme, there will be various areas of the site to explore throughout the day. This will include our Main Stage and Retail areas.

Yes. Groups should bring suitable camping equipment and personal kit. If you're unsure of what to bring, let us know and we can help with a recommended kit list.

HIJ offers a huge amount of space and will be split in to 5 Subcamps. Our subcamps will be designed to ensure that groups have the space they need. 

Based on group sizes and any other requirements, our Subcamp teams will ensure that groups have sufficient space available for their tents, catering/mess tents etc.

If you have any specific requirements, please let us know when you register and we will do out best to cater for them.

Subcamps will be arranged and information will be shared with groups about which subcamp they're allocated to. 

Let us know of any other groups and we will try to ensure you're allocated in the same area.

Information regarding electrical provision will be shared closer to the event. Groups should assume campsites are traditional camping areas unless advised otherwise.

If you require electricity for any medical or health requirements, please let us know.

We are looking to provide facilities to charge phones and power banks. More details will be available soon, including any fees.

Yes. Drinking water points will be available throughout the site.

Yes. A dedicated medical team will be available throughout the event to provide first aid and healthcare support where required.

The safety and wellbeing of everyone attending HIJ is our highest priority. The event will operate in line with the safeguarding policies and procedures of the relevant national organisations.

The event has comprehensive contingency plans for adverse weather. Some activities may be amended or postponed where necessary to ensure everyone's safety.

No. Many roles require enthusiasm and a willingness to help rather than previous experience. Training and guidance will be provided where appropriate.

No. If you're attending as part of your Scout/Guide/Explorer/Ranger unit and will be providing support to your group during their time at HIJ, you do not need to register as IST.

If your unit is attending but you'd like to join us as staff instead, we'd love to have you onboard as IST. It is the responsibility of each group to ensure they have sufficient adult coverage for their young people. 

Roles include programme delivery, catering, logistics, transport, administration, site services, communications, medical support, welfare, retail and many more. You can find out more about IST and how to apply here.

If you're interested in a specific area of HIJ, or just want to get involved, share this with us on the IST registration form and our team will aim to allocate you to role that provides an unforgettable experience for you too.

Minimum age requirements vary depending on the role. Details will be included within each volunteer role description.

We can also provide IST roles to young people completing their Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Gold Award. More details, including eligibility can be found here.

Yes. Your HIJ staff registration gives you access to everything you need to be part of the event, including:

Yes. We're please to offer flexible volunteering opportunities. 

Some Team Roles require full attendance throughout the event, but please let us know when you register your availability and we can ensure that we take this in to account when planning and allocating IST roles.

Yes. Information will be provided to help overseas contingents prepare for their visit, including travel guidance and key event information.

Yes. Official invitation letters can be provided where required for visa applications.

With Southampton and London Heathrow airports and Basingstoke, Micheldever and Winchester railway stations only a short drive away, our event site offers a number of transport options that make it easy for groups to attend.

Whether you're arriving by air, train or ferry, let us know and our team will be happy to help you with getting to HIJ.

Yes. If your group is arriving to HIJ by car, coach or mini-bus, a drop-off zone will be available for your group (and kit!) to be dropped off so you can start your HIJ adventures.

For adult volunteers, free parking will be available on site throughout the event.

We are very keen to help groups attend HIJ, so if you're arriving at a local airport, train station of ferry port, let us know and we'd be happy to discuss shuttle options to get your group to HIJ.

We may be able to offer transport from local airports/stations (costs to be advised). If this woudl be of interest, let us know when you register and we can share information with you so you can decide later.

We will ensure that there are provisions for your group to get your equipment on site and to your camping area.

To ensure a swift and efficient arrival experience, we will allocate each Group a target arrival time. This will allow us to manage groups arriving and ensure they are checked in and are shown to the subcamps safely and quickly.

We know that this isn't always possible. Late departures, traffic, additional toilet stops may mean that you arrive at HIJ at a different time. Don't worry, we will do our best to ensure everyone is checked in to site without delay.

The event is designed as a residential experience for participants. Visitor arrangements, if any, will be published before the event.

To maintain the safety and security of everyone on site, we will need to ensure we aware of any visitors to site. If you have any requirements for visitors to site, please let us know.

For Scouts, Guides, Explorers and Rangers, this event is a residential experience and we're anticipating all young people to stay with us for the full 7 days to get the most of what HIJ has to offer?

To showcase what HIJ is all about, we are planning to invite other younger people to event to experience 'HIJ in a Day'. This will give Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Rainbows and Brownies a chance to see what a jamboree is like. 

More details of 'HIJ in a Day' will be shared later. 

Participants may only leave the site in accordance with the event's procedures and under the supervision of their group leaders where appropriate.
