Head of Retail Systems
Role Purpose
To lead the planning, implementation and support of technology systems across HIJ retail operations. The Head of Retail Systems will oversee EPOS, payment solutions and retail technology, ensuring reliable and secure systems are in place to support retail operations before, during and after the event.
About The Team
The Retail Team helps create some of the most memorable parts of the Hampshire International Jamboree. From official merchandise and refreshments to trading areas and retail experiences, the team delivers services that enhance the event for participants, volunteers and visitors alike.
Working closely with Finance, Logistics, Infrastructure and Marketing, the team plans and operates a range of retail outlets before and during the event. Every role plays an important part in delivering a professional, welcoming and enjoyable retail experience across the jamboree.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the planning, implementation and support of retail technology systems across HIJ.
- Identify, procure, configure and deploy EPOS and payment solutions.
- Work with the Head of Retail Operations and Head of Volunteer Evening Experience to ensure systems meet operational needs.
- Ensure retail systems integrate with financial controls and reporting requirements.
- Deploy and manage retail technology assets, including laptops, tablets, printers and card terminals.
- Develop contingency plans to maintain continuity of retail operations.
- Coordinate testing, training and user support for retail systems.
- Work with the wider Event Technology and Infrastructure teams to ensure suitable connectivity and support.
- Provide technical support throughout the event and oversee post-event system shutdown and equipment recovery.
- Recruit, support and manage volunteers within the Retail Systems team.
- Support the Director of Retail in delivering the wider retail strategy.
Skills & Qualities Required
- Experience in IT systems, infrastructure or technical support.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Good organisational and project management skills.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Experience with EPOS, payment systems or transactional platforms would be beneficial.
- Understanding of cyber security, data protection and system resilience principles.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
- Experience of leading volunteers or managing teams is desirable.
- Commitment to the values of Scouting & Girlguiding.

Time Commitment
- Pre Event – Approx 1 hr a week initially
- On Site at HIJ – Full attendance during event build, live event and breakdown periods.
